Here is a link to the Don Garlits Hall of Fame Museum website where Barb's car is located and where vistitors can see her car on display in Ocala, Florida.
In August 1964, Barbara Hamilton passed National Hot Rod Association(NHRA)licensing test becoming the first women to get her license in a supercharged race car. She wasn't really interested in making history, more determined to conclude two years of petitioning NHRA officials to allow her to drive/race the supercharged 1937 Willys. She recieved 20 rejection letters from NHRA until 1964 when they allowed her to begin racing. Nacy Leonello (her best friend) and Barb had to build the Willys from scratch, it took two years to completely build the car. Barb drove her first race car when she was 19 years of age. "The wins and loses didn't really bother me it was the fact that I just love the sport and I love to race." said Barbara Hamilton.
